Artist's Statement

"Becoming a visual artist has changed my life. My heart opens up to the universe in an unexpected way. I look at the world so differently now. Everything is a painting. Things like the small corners of a room, a broken tile, a downcast eye, or a shadow across a chair, have become stories that I need to express on canvas.

"When I sing for an audience, the song becomes a painting - I see the perfect pressure of a brush stroke in a word in the lyric, or just the right color value for the note. It become the image of a unique musical phrase. It has harmony and rhythm, contrast and theme. I suspect other singer/painters like Tony Bennett, Joni Mitchell, and Paul McCartney have the same experience and I'm happy to be in the club.

"I am often teased about how I bring drama to the simplest things in life. This is how I have approached my singing and I approach my painting with the same intensity, passion, and humor.

I paint every day. I sing everyday and I learn everyday."
